Each day I will post a short reading for advent. Every Sunday there will be a lengthier reading that reflects the theme of each Advent week. There will be a mixture of scripture reading, observations, prayer and questions for personal reflection.
I can’t think of a better prayer to start the Advent season than this one by Henri Nouwen. Let us quiet our minds, hearts and lives in order to welcome the words and wisdom the Holy Spirit has to offer us.
Advent Prayer
By Henri J.M. Nouwen
Lord Jesus,
Master of both the light and the darkness,
send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations for Christmas.
We who have so much to do seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day. We who are anxious over many things look forward to your coming among us.
We who are blessed in so many ways long for the complete joy of your kingdom.
We whose hearts are heavy seek the joy of your presence.
We are your people, walking in darkness, yet seeking the light.
To you we say, “Come, Lord Jesus!”
Amen.
Love the idea of posting something each day to help us keep focused on Christ during this season. Hope you have a blessed day and find a way to bless someone else!
