At Christmas time there are many unhappy people who will have a difficult time making it through the holidays;for these people it will be a Blue Christmas. There will be sadness, arguments, loneliness, bitterness and more. How will these people make it through Christmas; the same way they make it through the rest of the year, by focusing on God. It may be extra challenging to not focus on one’s problems during a time of celebration, but we all need to remember that God is with us. Jesus reminded us that his spirit is with us always. He sees you in your loneliness and hears your heartache even during a time when our focus is supposed to be a time of celebrating HIS entry into this world.
Whatever you are feeling or going through this Christmas, remember that Christ is with you and because he made his way into this world we have a reason to experience some happiness during this season. It doesn’t have to be a Blue Christmas.
From Pope Francis
“Ours is not a joy born of having many possessions, but from having encountered a Person, Jesus, in our midst; it is born from knowing that with him we are never alone, even at difficult moments, even when our life’s journey comes up against problems and obstacles that seem insurmountable, and there are so many of them! And in this moment the enemy, the devil, comes, often disguised as an angel, and slyly speaks his word to us. Do not listen to him! Let us follow Jesus!” – Homily, March 24
